Description:
Most of us have experienced a mid-century coffee table with flaking surfaces, or a knock down wardrobe with peeling laminate.  Poorly applied wood veneer is cheap and ugly, but using thinly sliced expensive and beautiful wood on top of a common substrate has a rich history in woodworking.  When done well, you can create beautiful artifacts that are not possible in solid wood.  In this class we’ll learn a specific veneering technique, parquetry, which is assembling geometrically shaped veneers into beautiful patterns.  We’ll start with a checker board, but the techniques learned can be applied to myriad other projects. While it sounds complex, parquetry is accessible to woodworking students of any skill level.

Apply your parquetry skills to a hand built serving tray in Intro to Woodworking: Build a Serving Tray! If you're signed up for Build a Serving tray, you have the option of building a parquetry bottom for your tray instead of a checkerboard. Join us for both classes and receive a 5% discount off both courses! If you register for both classes at once the discount will automatically apply to your cart in Active.com. If you've already signed up for one class and want to add the other, just register then email us at admin@hammerstoneschool.com to receive a credit for the discount!
