Description:
Most of us have experienced a mid-century coffee table with flaking surfaces, or a knock down wardrobe with peeling laminate. Poorly applied wood veneer is cheap and ugly, but using thinly sliced expensive and beautiful wood on top of a common substrate has a rich history in woodworking. When done well, you can create beautiful artifacts that are not possible in solid wood. In this class we’ll learn a specific veneering technique, parquetry, which is assembling geometrically shaped veneers into beautiful patterns. We’ll start with a simple, small assembly and then work on a second, larger piece. While it sounds complex, parquetry is accessible to woodworking students of any skill level.
