Miter Saw Fundamentals

$0.00

A miter saw is one of the most-used tools in the shop — and one of the easiest to use badly. Crooked cuts, gaps, tear-out, out-of-square assemblies, dangerous hand positions, inaccurate angles… most of it comes down to not actually understanding the tool. In this one-day intensive, we’ll cover everything from safety and setup to calibration, clean cut technique, compound cuts, blade changes, and the subtle habits that separate frustrating cuts from precise ones.

Course Tuition: $300
Sliding scale: $195-420

Materials Fee: $40

Description:
Miter saws are fast, accurate, and incredibly versatile tools — but only when they’re used correctly. This hands-on intensive is designed to demystify the miter saw and help students build confidence through repetition, understanding, and proper technique.

Students will learn the anatomy of the tool, the differences between saw types, how to safely operate and maintain a saw, and how to produce clean and accurate cuts. We’ll discuss why cuts fail, how to avoid tear-out and drift, how to calibrate for accuracy, and how to work safely with long material and repeated cuts.

Throughout the class, students will practice a wide range of cuts while producing parts for a small take-home project. The project serves as a vehicle for learning — the real focus of the day is skill-building, confidence, and understanding how to use a miter saw effectively and safely.

This class is ideal for beginners looking to gain confidence with power tools, as well as intermediate woodworkers who want cleaner results and a stronger understanding of setup, precision, and technique.
